UEFA and its 55 member associations have unanimously rejected FIFA's proposal to allow private ownership of the FIFA World Cup and other competitions, calling the World Cup "not for sale." UEFA warned that private investment would put commercial interests above football and announced that its national teams will boycott FIFA competitions unless the proposal is completely withdrawn and FIFA guarantees its tournaments will never be opened to private ownership.
