Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, describing it as a major milestone for India's semiconductor mission. He said the plant will initially produce 20 crore chips annually, with a target of scaling up to 500 crore chips a year, and expressed confidence that the goal would soon be achieved. Reflecting on his vision from over two decades ago, PM Modi revealed that he had planned a semiconductor plant in Gujarat long before the sector gained national attention, saying it gives him immense satisfaction to see India now emerging as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub under the Semicon India programme.
