Vaishnaw's Big Metro Promise: New Trains, Faster Connectivity, Faster Completion

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday accused the then TMC-led West Bengal government of delaying the Chingrighata Metro project despite directives from the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court, claiming prolonged permission hurdles slowed Kolkata's infrastructure development. Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing Metro work at Chingrighata, Vaishnaw emphasized the corridor's importance in improving urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion. He also announced that Kolkata Metro will receive 60 next-generation Metro train sets over the next five years as part of a major modernization drive aimed at enhancing capacity, commuter comfort and operational efficiency. The Railway Minister further thanked West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for his support and cooperation, reiterating the Centre's commitment to completing all ongoing Metro and railway projects in the state within record time.
